Head Librarian, The Chrysler Museum of Art

The Chrysler Museum of Art www.chrysler.org/jobs.asp seeks an experienced, service-oriented Head Librarian for its Jean Outland Chrysler Library. With a collection of 80,000 volumes, the Jean Outland Chrysler Library is a significant art research library in southeastern Virginia. While the Library contains resources relevant to the entire history of art, its specific focus is to support research in areas relevant to the Permanent Collection of the Chrysler.

Responsibilities
The Head Librarian reports to the Director of Education and Public Programs and manages all aspects of the Library’s operations: acquisitions, services, and management of staff and volunteers. Additionally, the Head Librarian will also represent the Museum and Library publicly, particularly to area colleges and universities and to the Library’s support group, the Friends of the Jean Outland Chrysler Library.

Qualifications
The candidate should hold a Master’s degree in library science or a related field. Furthermore, the candidate should have particular experience in art history and the Humanities. A high degree of proficiency with computer technology relevant to libraries as well as expertise with digital media will be valued. In addition to these specific qualifications, candidates should possess extraordinary organizational skills as well as a demonstrated ability to think in innovative, strategic ways. Equally important is a strong disposition towards service.
