The Ullens Center for the Arts is developing the most comprehensive contemporary art institution in Beijing with exhibitions, screenings, performances, lectures and seminars, an art library and educational program. The Head of Library & Archive will have a unique opportunity to envision and develop the first public arts reference library in China - a highly respected, contemporary art-focused research facility that supports the overall mission of the Ullens Center for the Arts. The Head of Library & Archive will be responsible for coordinating acquisitions, developing cataloging systems, assisting with reference, and supervising employees. Successful candidates will be excited by the possibility of building a collection and organizing operations at a new institution; developing information management systems; partnering with the Center’s Curatorial, Education and Public Events teams to provide support for their programs and research; working with the Artistic Director to develop and maintain an archive of materials documenting contemporary Chinese art and visual culture; and creating opportunities to advance public engagement using innovative methods. Integrating the library fully into one of China’s most distinctive art centers, s/he will work to enhance the Ullens Center for the Arts’ visibility and reputation as a site for research on contemporary art from China and abroad. 

Qualifications:
American Library Association (ALA) accredited master’s degree or foreign equivalent; three years of experience in managing an art library; extensive knowledge of contemporary global art; collection development experience; supervisory and management experience; working knowledge of standard electronic resources in art and architecture; excellent interpersonal skills. Upon hire, successful candidate must be willing to relocate to Beijing. This position is a one-year contract, with the possibility for extension.
