Professional Bio
Liza Hazelwood handles versatile book repair techniques on circulating collections and supervises and trains student workers on those same techniques at VCU Libraries. She is also in charge of bindery processing operations, collecting environmental monitoring data and general workshop upkeep. She works with others throughout the library to support their work in shared collections care goals. She started working at VCU Libraries as a student employee in 2017.
She co-created and co-teaches a four-week online course, “Hearing the Story: Creating an Oral History Project,” with Jeanne Drewes for the American Library Association. She previously interned at the Library of Congress processing various oral history projects related to preservation librarians, commercial bookbinders and LC employees.
As an artist, she works in documentary and experimental filmmaking, image-making and textile media. She is interested in preservation, human connection, and new ways of living and creating. She is originally from Silver Spring, Md.
