A Statement in Solidarity + Support of IMLS

Community,

ARLIS/NA stands in solidarity with the American Library Association, the American Alliance of Museums, and many other library, archive, and museum organizations in urging our elected officials to oppose efforts to dismantle the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). An executive order issued on March 14, 2025 calls for the elimination of the IMLS, which as the only federal agency dedicated to supporting libraries and museums across the country, plays an essential role in preserving access to knowledge, culture, and history.

We encourage ARLIS/NA members and the communities we serve to explore the FAQs about the executive order and the resources compiled by the ALA and advocate for continued funding and against initiatives threatening our invaluable institutions. As you are able, please join the ARLIS/NA Executive Board in contacting elected officials to voice your opposition to this executive order (US Capitol switchboard number: 202.224.3121). Supporting and funding libraries and museums ensures our historical and cultural legacy which will have a lasting impact on civilized society.
