ARLIS/NA Stands Against Book Bans
In recognition of Banned Books Week 2022, ARLIS/NA stands together with the American Library Association, the American Association of School Librarians, and many other library and educational associations in condemning the numerous recent efforts to censor books and information, especially in school and public libraries. These censorship efforts have, in particular, focused on materials that center on BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, as well as other marginalized individuals. Bans and censorship undermine the core values and responsibilities of art information professionals and cultural institutions, including a commitment to intellectual freedom, access to information, and diversity, equity and inclusion for people of all backgrounds.
We encourage ARLIS/NA members and the communities we serve to consult the Unite Against Book Bans Toolkit for information on how to take action against censorship.
