Description

Content Cluster Internship for Graduate Students

The Frick Art Research Library’s Content Cluster comprises Acquisitions, Digital Art History, Metadata, Photoarchive, and Web Archiving. The intern will build their art historical knowledge through hands-on projects involving the collections of a leading research institute dedicated to the study of fine and decorative arts from the fourth to the mid-twentieth century.

The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with cluster leads and participate in department meetings, webinars, intern events, and other professional development programming for libraries and museums. The scope of the projects may include, but is not limited to:

  • Learning special collections cataloging by creating MARC records and researching provenance and attribution histories for Photoarchive images of paintings and drawings by American, Dutch, or Italian artists.
  • Creating and modifying datasets for a digital mapping project that documents the movement of library photographers across the United States as they recorded paintings and sculptures in private collections and lesser-known public collections.
  • Contributing to a crowdsourcing project to create alt-text descriptions of digitized images.
  • Contributing to Wikidata projects to enhance the discoverability of sitters, collectors, and repositories represented in Photoarchive resources.
  • Creating a map timeline of art galleries in NYC or tracking gallery exhibition trends using FARL’s gallery pamphlet collection.
